Our Mission
A HISTORY OF CHALLENGES
Africa’s oldest and first modern republic, Liberia is a beautiful country on the West African coast with a population of over 5 million. Despite its wealth of natural resources, Liberia has a long history of civil war, political and economic instability, and endemic corruption that has devastated the country and the quality of life for many of its citizens. A majority of Liberians now live below the international poverty line and the healthcare infrastructure is virtually nonexistent.
Decimated by the 2014 Ebola outbreak, Liberia has one of the lowest physician densities in Sub-Saharan Africa with just 0.04 physicians for every 1,000 people (CIA World Factbook, 2015) and an equally dire shortage of nurses, pharmacists, and midwives. Poor roads and inconsistent utilities result in “medical deserts” - areas with few medical care providers offering inconsistent and limited services. Residents of rural areas - especially women and children - suffer disproportionately and outcomes from life expectancy to maternal mortality reveal the desperate conditions of healthcare in Liberia.
A HAVEN FOR CARE
Haven Care is a clinic providing free acute and preventive medical services to the local community. The clinic offers reliable, high quality medical care in a safe, dignified setting to children and adults at all hours of the day and night. Staffed by a group of passionately committed healthcare workers, Haven Care has expanded from a small school-based clinic to a widely known facility that serves hundreds of patients each day.
Join Our Community of Care
At Haven Care, caring for a sick child supports the future and wellbeing of the entire community. Every donation purchases medications, employs more medical staff, and fuels ambulances. Together we can offer a safe haven for families and support a healthy Liberia.
